Trevor Lawrence is the most talented quarterback in college football and he WILL be the next great quarterback in the NFL. The best quarterbacks in the NFL are all in the later part of their careers Brady is 41 years old, Roethlisberger is 36, Brees is 39, Rivers is 36, and Rodgers is 34. I don’t think any quarterback under the age of 30 has consistently shown that they deserve to be in that class of great QBs, they have shown they can be but not consistently. There is definitely not one of those quarterbacks that are ready to be the best in the NFL when most of those guys retire. I think that the heir to Brady and Rodgers’ throne will be Lawrence. He has all of the tools he has great arm strength, athleticism, football IQ, and lastly he has the IT FACTOR. High School Trevor grew up in Cartersville, Georgia. Ever since Trevor was in eighth grade it was said that his high school head coaches had a starting spot for him once he entered high school. Once Trevor reached ninth grade he was the starting quarterback for his high school team. He started for all four years of high school. Lawrence became well known nationally when he surpassed current Houston Texans and former Clemson Deshaun Watson’s career high school passing yards record in the state of Georgia with 13,255 yards. Lawrence was obviously recruited by every Division one school known to man came. Lawrence eventually chose Clemson. He came in as the number one player in the country not just number one quarterback number one player. He was ranked as the number one player on almost every platform including ESPN, Rivals, 24/7, and Scout just to name a few Great throwing Intangibles The first time Clemson coach Dabo Swinney watched Trevor Lawrence throw a pass in person it was at a football camp a few years ago, he immediately went into protection mode for his receivers. “We don’t wear helmets, and I was afraid somebody would get hurt,” Swinney said. His concern was justified. Lawrence, recently had a pass clocked at 61 miles an hour, this simply confirms that Lawrence has unreal Pat Mahomes like arm strength. Football IQ To be a great NFL quarterback you have to be smarter than anyone else on the field and I think that Lawrence is. To come in as a Freshman, learn a complex offense like Clemson’s then take the starting spot from senior quarterback Kelly Bryant that had just led Clemson to an ACC championship and the National Semifinal the year before, should tell you enough about how special Lawrence is. To be the number one player in the country and commit to a school like Clemson where he was not guaranteed the starting spot, and go in as a Freshman and win the starting spot should tell you a lot about this guy and his competitiveness. Athleticism Even great pocket passers in the NFL still have to be athletic enough to maneuver within the pocket, and Lawrence definitely is. Lawrence is obviously not as athletic as Michael Vick or RG3 but he is athletic enough. What I mean by athletic enough is that I think you can see in the modern NFL there will become more and more common to run RPO and option plays. To run these plays you need to be athletic. Lawrence recently ran a 4.78 forty yard dash. I think that this shows that Lawrence is athletic enough to run the traditional read option if he needs to, he obviously won’t be as successful running the ball as Vick or RG3, I think that he will be successful enough to keep the defense guessing. If Lawrence can keep the opposing defense guessing I think it would lead to tremendous success. If the defense is always on their heels Lawrence is such a talented passer I would expect him to pick apart any defense he plays. IT FACTOR The it factor is something that is impossible to measure, but all of the great quarterbacks have it. I think Lawrence has it, he just looks like a great quarterback from his flowing long blonde hair, and his 6’5” frame. He just looks like a quarterback and, he just checks off all the boxes. Early in his career there has not been a moment to big for him while he has had the spotlight on him since he was a freshman in highschool. So far Lawrence always looks incredibly calm and he never lets anything bother him. He’s tall, great arm strength, great athleticism, and he has shown that he is ultra competitive and wants to be great. What else do you want from a quarterback. I also really liked how Lawrence handled the whole Kelly Bryant situation, and just went along with his business while not letting the outside noise bother him, this shows a lot about his character. It is hard to explain the it factor, but Lawrence just looks like he was manufactured in a lab to be a quarterback, he never looks like he forces anything, he just looks like he is supposed to be there. Lawrence has no weakness. Trevor Lawrence has the most potential of any young quarterback in college football today, and I think that this will translate eventually into the NFL. He is already so talented and he can only get better from here. I truly believe that Lawrence has the ability to one day be the best quarterback in the NFL.
